How to take a bus
There isn’t a central bus terminal in Castries where all buses originate. However, visitors travelling the Castries to Gros Islet route will find most buses (including Route 1A) located on the eastern side of the Castries Market. The origins of other bus routes are strategically located throughout the Castries city centre.
Buses leave their stops when they are full, so often catching a bus on the road is limited by the number of seats available. If there’s no bus stop nearby, you can wave buses down en route as long as there’s space for the bus to pull over.. At times it’s easier to backtrack to a larger town in order to find a bus that has a seat for you.
Route numbers are displayed on the buses, but it’s best to check with the driver, just in case.
You would need to know where you are going. If you are not sure, you can always tell the driver where you are going to, so you do not end up passing your destination.
When you get off the bus, pay the fare directly to the driver.
The maps show the bus stations in Castries and Vieux Fort and routes. Some routes in maps may differ from the real routes, so make sure whether the bus goes to your destination or not if you are a stranger there.
